Performance measurement of different navigation approaches in lab conditions
Today, card sorting is one of the most important methods for creating a user-friendly website architecture. When these methods are used at the beginning of the conceptual design, it is called exploratory card sorting.
Often, different competing sitemaps are developed over the course of the project which should then be rated before the launch regarding your later performance. In order to test these, a so-called structure test is used. The goal is to determine the best variants and to optimize these in detail according to the following key indicators:</di v>
- Number of clicks when looking for content (misclicks)
- Error rate when looking for content (misclicks)
- Processing time until content is found
- Subjective rating of difficulty during content search
In this test, several hundred subjects are led to one of several click dummies. There, the subjects are given a number of typical search tasks. The above variables are automatically measured and can be compared among the dummy variants.
